Mental Illness In America -------------------------- "Brendan, I think that you've got a pretty high intelligence for someone with this illness. I would say, in the nicest words, you are both blessed and cursed by your level of awareness ..." "You appear to be on a very low spectrum of paranoid schizophrenia." I did a "meeting" with the people from my group home, and Dr. Abernathy was there to back me up, while every staff member and even my own parents collectively attempted to crucify me through words, and "place blame on me" for "my drug use" and "bad behavior." This made Abernathy stand up for me more, and he was one of the reasons why I was allowed back into the group home. (My doctor while at detox). From the vantage of someone who knows illness, but who has not been touched so far as to be deemed so much "crazy" as "crazy as everyone else.." I have learned a lot about mental illness while being a part of the system, and this is what I know: Paranoia Schizophrenia (Audio Hallucinations) : / Fragmentation -- A problem of hearing / picking up on / and / or receiving telepathic transferences from unwanted sources. An illness of fragmentation usually caused by drug-use. Only healed by more drug-use. General Shizophrenia (Visual And Audio Hallucinations): / Fragmentation illness -- Seeing things that are not there / a distortion in the optic nerve caused by drugs usually hallucinogenices or just pot -- can be inspired by trauma also, and is brought upon triggers and symptoms through trauma. I knew a girl like this once, and she was extremely troubled. The more advanced cases in schizophrenia make a person lose trust for reality itself, and lose trust for everyone and every thing around themselves. Bipolar Disorder -- Highs / Lows or "Extreme Highs / Lows" in the mood -- a constant switching back and forth from extreme depression to grandiose thinking. A lot of people with this illness think they are Jesus, or hold too much reverence for something. They are poor at being religious, or do the wrong drugs, on a constant basis. Self-detrimenting people of the worst kind are bipolar. OCD - Obsessive Compulsive Disorder -- The need for perfection and/or good feng shui -- "perfect order" to the objects and things around the ill individual, where this illness is similar to schizoeffective disorder -- a need to put things in the right place, in order to be comfortable with the environment. The comfort with the environment is needed to be based on a mental pattern of order with the objects in the room. A very disturbing illness. Schizoeffective Disorder -- / Alchemic Fragmentation -- A person thinks the object can effect them from far away, in essence, they are effected by the mere thought or sight of something -- and so it returns an effect to their body and/or mind that is psychosomatic, or self-induced response. Trained by the use of certain movies or shows, oftentimes these are video-game players, or people who are criminals. Psychopathy / Psychopathic -- The want / desire to maim or hurt others with violence. This is the disorder in which a mind has maybe shown symptoms of all mental illness, and has wrought nothing good from life except for pain. The need to see more pain in ones self, or others, is akin to sadomasochism, and a strong desire to see/feel pain in the people around you -- for personal amusement / pleasure / survival technique of the mentally ill person. Sociopathy -- Lying about age / identity / Pretending to be something or someone you are not -- The sociopath is common on the internet, and in society. The sociopath is usually someone who builds a powerful story around themself when you first meet them. This type of individual can be hard to trust, since they rarely form an honest picture of themself. Nymphomania -- The need to have sex more than what is termed normal in pattern or behavior. Sex, constantly, or enjoyed on a mental basis is actually negative, and detrimental to the body, so nymphomania is considered a mental illness that should not be something you are proud to have. Many problems with the body including incontinence, confusion of the glands, and poor digestive functioning, boosting of other mental illnesses, and the general feeding of sickness into the mind/body complex when this illness is extreme calls for support or the need to abstain from sex. Mental illness is so prevalent in America, you could say that almost everyone in America suffers from one of these mental illnesses. It is said that 60% of people in America are mentally ill, which is over a majority of people. The mentally ill were not always so well-treated by hospitals. In fact, mentally ill people were once more treated the same as black people were, once, during slavery. Most mentally ill people in America end up institutionalized, under house arrest, or put in jail. - Brendan Lee Sprague
